Why stop here
Griffith Observatory is both a science center and LA’s premier viewpoint. From here you can see the entire basin of Los Angeles and the Hollywood Sign.
Getting there from the bus
- The HOHO stop places you within a reasonable walk; allow 15–25 minutes uphill to the main terrace depending on pace.
- If hiking: the Mount Hollywood Trail is a moderate 2–3 mile out-and-back with excellent photo opportunities.
Accessibility
- The Observatory building and main terraces are wheelchair accessible; some trails are steep.
Best photo locations
- Observatory terrace for downtown-to-ocean panoramas.
- West side trails for closer sign views (telephoto recommended).
Timing
- Arrive near opening to avoid crowds and for soft morning light. Sunset is also special but attracts many visitors.
Quick itinerary
- 60–90 minutes: Observatory exhibits + terrace.
- 1.5–3 hours: Add a short hike to Mount Hollywood.
