Why stop here

Griffith Observatory is both a science center and LA’s premier viewpoint. From here you can see the entire basin of Los Angeles and the Hollywood Sign.

Getting there from the bus

  • The HOHO stop places you within a reasonable walk; allow 15–25 minutes uphill to the main terrace depending on pace.
  • If hiking: the Mount Hollywood Trail is a moderate 2–3 mile out-and-back with excellent photo opportunities.

Accessibility

  • The Observatory building and main terraces are wheelchair accessible; some trails are steep.

Best photo locations

  1. Observatory terrace for downtown-to-ocean panoramas.
  2. West side trails for closer sign views (telephoto recommended).

Timing

  • Arrive near opening to avoid crowds and for soft morning light. Sunset is also special but attracts many visitors.

Quick itinerary

  • 60–90 minutes: Observatory exhibits + terrace.
  • 1.5–3 hours: Add a short hike to Mount Hollywood.

Bottom line

Hop off at Griffith for a high-return stop: science exhibits, planetarium shows (paid), and unforgettable views.
